According to a study, carried out by the British sustainable marketing agency Yard, the interpreter of shake it off is at the top of the personalities whose private jets have produced the most carbon dioxide since the beginning of the year.
With 170 trips between January 1 and July 29, the singer emitted 8,293.54 tonnes of carbon, or 1,184.8 times more than the average annual emissions of a single person, as detailed in Yard’s report, based on Twitter account data @CelebJetswhich automatically lists the private jet trips of the biggest celebrities.
A jet “loaned to other people”
Since this revelation, Taylor Swift has been the subject of many mockeries on social networks. On Twitter, some Internet users have even launched a trend which consists of imagining exaggerated short fictional trips that the popstar could have made in a private jet, all accompanied by a same of someone taking the plane.
Faced with these criticisms, Taylor Swift wanted to respond to the controversy through one of her representatives. Asked by the American media Rolling Stonesthe latter explains that the singer is not at the origin of all of the 170 trips made with her Falcon 7X jet.
“Taylor’s jet is regularly loaned to other people. To attribute most or all of those trips to him is completely inaccurate,” he said in the columns of Rolling Stones.
Besides Taylor Swift, boxer Floyd Mayweather is the second most polluting celebrity with 177 flights and 7076.8 tons of CO2 emitted since the beginning of the year. Among the other personalities appearing in the top 10 of Yard, we find rapper Jay-Z, country singer Blake Shelton, director Steven Spielberg, Kim Kardashian or Oprah Winfrey.
