In the new features to come, Apple customers who prefer a browser other than Safari on their iPhone will be delighted! Indeed, with iOS 16, Apple Pay could finally be compatible with Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. This is what Steve Moser just posted on Twitter!
This one indeed found that Apple Pay works with Edge and Chrome with iOS 16 beta 4. He therefore took the opportunity to post some screenshots showing an option
Continue with Apple Pay on the Edge payment page. Currently, the Cupertino service only works with Safari on iOS 15 (and of course earlier versions), which stop to use any other browser if you want to pay with Apple Pay on the web.
Lately, other users noticed the compatibility of Apple Pay with Firefox before the release of iOS 16 beta 4, especially on Reddit (here with beta 2 and there on beta 3). However, it looks like Apple Pay is still not available with other browsers in the latest macOS beta. This change could be linked to news from the European Union (DMA, Digital Market Act, and DSA, Digital Service Act) which intend to regulate the practices of tech firms and limit certain abuses.
