Apple TV+: Killers Of The Flower Moon Would Debut At The 2023 Cannes Film Festival

Killers Of The Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese’s next film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro could debut at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival according to Deadline. The film will then be released in cinemas and then on Apple TV+.

Martin Scorsese originally developed the film at Paramount, but the budget was an issue and Apple TV+ stepped in to pay around $200 million to wrap up the project and more importantly be the broadcaster. As part of the deal reached in 2020, Paramount will continue to help manage the film’s theatrical release.

Why go to the cinema? Because it’s a mandatory step to be eligible for the Oscars. Also, we can suspect that it is a request from Martin Scorsese so that spectators can discover his film on the big screen and not only at home in streaming.

The next Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 16 to 27, 2023 and Killers Of The Flower Moon would therefore make its debut there. There will then be the cinema release and then the availability on Apple TV+. It is worth noting that France still has the media chronology. This imposes a delay of 17 months between the cinema release and release on streaming platforms such as Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+. The deadline is 15 months for Netflix because the service contributes more to French cinema (200 million euros this year). The French are therefore likely to wait a little over a year after the cinema release to have it in streaming.

Deadline also mentions Emancipation, another big Apple TV+ movie starring Will Smith. The production would be finished, but the exit remains complicated because of the famous slap of the actor at the Oscars. Despite this incident, the film could be released before the end of the year.
